Surfing

With more than 100 surf breaks located along the coast, anyone from the novice to the experienced surfer can ride a wave. Ready to catch a break? There are king waves fit for World Surf League champions, and gentle swells made for little groms.

The coastline in the South West offers up world-class surf, and as a result features heavily on surf forums and websites. The region has been a surfing mecca for nearly 50 years when surfers started migrating to the Margaret River Region. A surfing lifestyle has been well ingrained in local culture since. The famed Surfers Point, 10 kilometres from Margaret River town is the perfect vantage point for watching the local surfers take on this premier wave. ‘Main break’ as the locals call it, is the setting for the annual Margaret River Pro, one of surfing’s annual World Championship Tour events.

Don’t know how to surf? No worries. Hire a surf board and practice the technique of surfing by taking lessons at one of the many surf schools in the region. Check with the local visitor centre for further information.
