Seasons turn like pages in a well-loved book, as you move to the slow rhythm of life. Spring wakes the hills to soft greens and a blush of wildflowers, while summer lingers in golden light, warming orchards and winding lanes.
Autumn arrives in a flash of leafy embers in Balingup – scarlet, russet, and gold – each one flickering across the ground every time the wind comes calling. Winter’s here wrap the valley in silver mist and stillness. Along the main street cosy stores brim with pottery, natural skincare, and locally-made art. Life is unhurried, time measured not in minutes but in the colours of the day.
Located on the road to the Southern Forests and Valleys, a 2.5 hour drive south of Perth (Boorloo), Balingup is a place of wide-open gardens and tasty farm-fresh produce. Find yourself greeted by friendly scarecrows, or step back to yesteryear as the town comes alive with Medieval mayhem.
Golden Valley Tree Park
The beautiful Golden Valley Tree Park is a must see destination just outside the town centre. A beautiful place for a walk, it is a sixty hectare landscaped park set in picturesque rolling hills. The heritage-listed site is home to a collection of trees from around the world, some of which were planted over one hundred years ago. Nowadays it is the largest arboretum in WA, and the perfect place for an afternoon picnic or stroll with the dog. Plan your trip to the park here.
Balingup Medieval Festival
One of the quirkiest events on Balingup’s calendar is the Balingup Medieval Carnivale, held in August of each year. Visitors are encouraged to dress in medieval-themed costumes and lean into the dream, where knights, kings, warriors and other renaissance spectators wander and play. Each year the festival kicks off with a gluttonous feast, before continuing with music, dance, street stalls, a parade and games. Check out this year’s event here.
