Located just 15 minutes adjacent to the Porongurup Range and within easy reach of the Stirling Range, Mount Barker is a quaint small agricultural town, rich in history and heritage that has diversified into viticulture and wildflower cultivation and the only place you will find every species of Banskia grown.

The area around Mount Barker is significant for wine growing and award winning wineries with cellar doors that take in the picturesque views. Enjoy seasonal produce and discover specialist display gardens, craft galleries and wander heritage trails and scenic drives. Mount Barker Hill provides panoramic views across the ranges and back to Albany.

Just 360km south of Perth, Mount Barker is a thriving town which is fast becoming a hub for trail users, wine lovers and wildflower enthusiasts. With an award-winning bakery, bustling cafes and historic pubs, Mount Barker is filled with secret treasurers for you to discover. It also located centrally to easily access and explore the rest of the Great Southern Region.

Walks

All ages and abilities of trail users are catered for with a wide range of trails in and around Mount Barker. Mondurup Reserve is located on the outskirts of town and showcases rare and beautiful wildflowers throughout the year. Only 15 minutes to the east of Mount Barker is the Porongurup National Park and 30 minutes to the north east is the Stirling Range National Park.

Wine 

There are 9 wineries in the Mount Barker and Porongurup sub-regions, with the majority being family owned and operated. Riesling takes the top prize for regional wines, although there are many other varieties available for the discerning palate. Annual events include the Porongurup Festival, Mount Barker Wine Festival, Grapes and Gallops, Wine Maker Long Table Dinners and the Burning of the Canes at Gilbert Wines. Mount Barker is also the home to the annual Wine Show of WA.

Wildflowers

The internationally recognised Banksia Farm is the world’s only complete collection of Banksias and owners, Kathy and Kevin Collins have shared their knowledge, skills and plants in and around Mount Barker with pockets of native displays in local parks and gardens. Although wildflower season begins in September, beautiful banksias bloom all year round.

Mount Barker is also part of The Great Southern Treasures.
