Windy Harbour

Windy Harbour gets its name due to being one of the only safe, protected areas along an otherwise rugged stretch of coast.

The settlement is nestled at the base of large cliffs. Families usually spend school holidays here, fishing, hiking, swimming and boating. For all bird-watchers, Sandy Island off shore of Windy Harbour is an important breeding site for seabirds, especially the flesh-footed shearwater, alongside fairy terns, sooty oystercatchers, and little shearwaters.

Windy Harbour is also a part of the Southern Forests and Valleys region.
