Day One In Bunbury
Afternoon
Coast down the highway to the sound of some sweet tunes on your quick 2 hour drive. As you pull into Bunbury, make sure to stop at the iconic Bunbury Farmer’s Market to stock up on some fresh produce and delicious treats for your weekend away.
Come sunset, pack a picnic and head down to the ocean to watch the sunset. The Back Beach offers perfect pastel sky views, or head north to Wyalup Rocky Point to enjoy the twilight glow descending over the Bunbury Lighthouse, as waves crash against the ancient basalt rocks.
Day Two In Bunbury
Morning
Start your morning at the Koombana Bay Foreshore, listening to the sound of the waves gently lapping against the beach. Grab a coffee and delicious breakfast from 62ThirtyCafe while you send the kids next door to the state-of-the-art playground, featuring a zipline.
After breakfast, wander the pathway northwards to take in the striking Wadandi Boodja sculpture. The five-and-a-half metre, Corten steel bust represents a Noongar face, and seeks to merge traditional craftmanship and advanced fabrication technology to create a striking contemporary artwork that pays deep respect to the local Noongar people.
Finish off the morning with an up-close look at Bunbury’s most beloved residents, the bottle-nosed dolphins. See them cruising through the interaction zone in front of the Dolphin Discovery Centre, or head inside the aquarium to discover what sea life calls this unique biosphere home.
Afternoon
Stroll along Victoria Street in the city centre, where you’ll be spoilt for choice for places to have lunch. Discover hidden gems along the main walk serving fresh, decadent bites and local wines. After lunch explore the local businesses, quaint boutiques and unique street art peppered throughout the town.
Head to the Bunbury Regional Art Gallery and immerse yourself in the local art scene. Located within an 1897 convent, this unique building offers charm from the outset. Explore exhibitions like South West Art Now – A New Constellation, focused on the creative practices and processes.
Once the sun dips below the horizon and a chill creeps into the air, it’s time for a good hearty meal. Head to Last Slice for delectable bites and tasty pizzas in a sports bar setting. Featuring local and international beers and wines, plus a large cocktail menu, there is something to suit everyone’s tastebuds. If you’re more on the competitive side, hop next door to Timezone for classic arcade games, bowling, and laser tag.
Day Three In Bunbury
Morning
Start your Sunday nice and early in the tranquil surrounds of Bunbury’s nature walks. Head up Maidens Reserve for panoramic views of the Indian ocean and Bunbury CBD. Recently revamped, the reserve’s lookout features an assisted wheelchair accessible pathway to a 45m high lookout, as well as an additional 67m high lookout.
From there travel by the coast towards the Big Swamp, where you’ll discover the Bunbury Wildlife Park. Embark on an interactive experience with a range of species from local wildlife to exotic animals. The park aims to educate visitors and provide sanctuary to endangered and orphaned native fauna. Stop by the reptile room, featuring skinks, lizards, and a variety of snakes, as well as visit birds, marsupials, dingoes, kangaroos, frogs, ferrets, and even farm animals!
Afternoon
Feeling peckish? Time for lunch. Head back into town to the Rose Hotel for a hearty pub meal. Choose from juicy burgers, crunchy chips, or the classic chicken parmi. Kick back and relax as you dine in comfort.
Before heading back to the big smoke, stop in at Koolambidi Woola, for a final opportunity to tire the kids out. This youth precinct is equipped with a multi-sports court, parkour areas, mini golf, youth services building, skate park, and beach climbing net.
