Colours of Country: Celebrating Our Stories by Yallingup Aboriginal Art

Yallingup Aboriginal Art proudly presents Colours of Country, a special exhibition featuring the works of Josh Whiteland, Kim Kiossess and John Sara, three Noongar artists sharing their deep connections to the places they live, come from and carry through their ancestors.

The exhibition celebrates the colours, stories and living knowledge of Country, from the land, waterways and oceans to the sky, changing seasons, native foods, and the enduring importance of belonging and family. Each artist brings a personal perspective shaped by culture, memory and connection to Country.

Josh Whiteland of Koomal Dreaming, a Wadandi Custodian born in Busselton, shares stories grounded in living harmoniously on Wadandi Boodja. His work reflects the relationships between people, native animals and plants, and the rhythms of the Noongar Six Seasons. As both an artist and educator, Josh draws daily inspiration from his role in honouring and sharing knowledge of his ancient lands.

John Sara and Kim Kiossess are a father and daughter duo of accomplished Noongar artists who live and create on Wadandi Boodja. Their heritage traces to Ballardong country in the Wheatbelt, Whadjuk country in Perth and Banjima country in the Pilbara.

John’s paintings speak to stories passed down through generations, family history and the land he holds close to his heart. The exhibition marks a welcome return to painting for John after a long break and includes both earlier works and newly created pieces.

Inspired by her father, Kim’s paintings explore stories of family, culture and connection to Country. Over the past two years, she has become one of the gallery’s most sought after artists.

Colours of Country invites audiences to experience the richness of Noongar stories and the powerful connections between art, culture and place.

Visitors are invited to attend the Opening Night on Saturday, 28 March 2026.

Yallingup Aboriginal Art looks forward to welcoming guests for an evening featuring a Welcome to Country by Josh, along with the opportunity to meet Josh, Kim and John and experience their stories and beautiful pieces.
