As always, the wild Dolphin Beach Interaction Zone operates free of charge, inviting visitors to the beautiful shores of Koombana Bay daily from 8am to 12pm. During this time, guests can learn about conservation, research, and education from the friendly volunteers and displays while waiting to see if wild dolphins make an appearance in the shallows.
The Centre’s state-of-the-art Marine Discovery & Interpretive Centre features an expanded range of themed fish and coral aquariums, a stunning 360-degree Digital Dolphinarium, Virtual Reality, 3D and engaging exhibits that explore the environment and history of Koombana Bay—including geological, indigenous, marine, and contemporary perspectives.
This immersive experience includes activity centres, interactive displays, feeding programs, and tours designed to engage all age groups. The aquariums highlight the story of the region, from freshwater rivers to offshore reefs, showcasing marine plants and animals of the temperate zone. With a combination of embedded technology and natural displays, the Centre offers a memorable visitor experience that complements the wild dolphin interactions at the Beach Interaction Zone and Dolphin Tours.
The Centre’s Swim with the Dolphins tour offers guests an intimate opportunity to swim with wild Bottlenose Dolphins in their natural habitat. This popular and exhilarating experience is guided by trained volunteers and an experienced tour leader. Depending on dolphin sightings, participants enter the water where dolphins may choose to visit and interact. We guarantee to see dolphins or you go again for free.
For those preferring to stay dry, the Dolphin Eco Cruise is a 90-minute tour within Koombana Bay. The custom vessel provides an excellent viewing platform, allowing guests to observe the dolphins up close as they interact in their natural environment. Many of the dolphins encountered on the cruise are residents of Koombana Bay. Informative commentary from the skipper keeps passengers engaged as they watch the dolphins play, feed, sleep, and socialise. Dolphins are guaranteed or you go again for free.
For Food & Comfort our Cafe & Kiosk offers a wide range of locally produced warm and cold food options, barista made coffees and teas, cakes and sweet treats as well as a large range of cold drink options.
In our Souvenir & Gift Store you can unwind for some well deserved retail therapy or to pick up some mementos for yourself or loved ones.
Bunbury and Koombana Bay offer one of the best locations for dolphin-human interaction. The Interaction Zone is a designated dolphin protection area, established under strict license conditions set by the Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions (DBCA). Since 1989, the Dolphin Discovery Centre has facilitated unique beach-based interactions in this zone. Trained Dolphin Volunteers are always present to oversee the guidelines and provide information to guests. While sightings are not guaranteed, dolphins most commonly visit between 8am and 12pm during the warmer months of Oct – May.
Disabled Access
The Centre offers multiple disabled parking bays and wheelchair-accessible entry. Beach and In-water wheelchairs are available but please note that you will have to provide carers (recommended 2) to move and use the wheelchairs.
Children Catered For
Most interactive activities at the Dolphin Discovery Centre are designed to suit both adults and children of all ages.
