Jewel Cave is the largest show cave in Western Australia, with the full length at a mighty 90 kilometres long and 3 kilometres wide, it’s renowned for its breathtaking size and stunning crystal formations. The cave itself is primarily made up of an ancient limestone called Aeolian calcarenite, made up of what once was sand dunes, coral and sea shells, now formed to make the caves and cliffs of the of the Leeuwin-Naturaliste Ridge.
On a one-hour guided tour, you’ll explore three vast chambers adorned with towering stalagmites, delicate straws, intricate shawls, and glittering stalactites hidden in the depths that have taken thousands of years to develop, including one of the longest straw stalactites found in the world, measuring 5.8 metres tall.
Your guide will use lighting to emphasise crystal formations, share information about the formation of cave systems, and tell historical anecdotes and ancient tales of the Tasmanian Tigers that once fell into the cave. Complement your cave journey with a self-guided walk through the towering karri forest before or after your tour.
Fully guided one-hour tours of the cave are available from 9am to 5pm. For information about site accessibility, view the Access Guide here.
