Across 2026, Albany and the Great Southern become a living gallery, with a year-long calendar of events that see light, sound, story, food, and art appear in unexpected places. This 7-day itinerary is designed to help you plan a week around the Albany 2026 program, while still leaving plenty of room for spontaneity.

7 Day Itinerary for Albany 2026 and Taste Great Southern

When to Visit

Albany 2026 is a year-long spectacle of unfolding events and experiences. Come in summer for coastal evenings, autumn for flavour-filled days, winter for immersive storytelling, and spring for wildflowers and long walks.

These dates can help you start dreaming, but the full calendar runs all year, so use them as guideposts and build your week to whenever it suits you.

Taste Great Southern – 5-8 March 2026

Lighting the Sound – 13-15, 20-22, 27-29 March 2026

Albany Is – Available June 2026

Carrying The Fire – 14 November 2026

Albany 2026 Day One

Perth – Kojonup – Mount Barker

367km | 4hr (without stops)

Leave the city behind and roll south through golden paddocks and big-sky country.

In Kojonup, step into story at Kodja Place, where Noongar and settler histories meet through gardens, artworks, and quiet places to pause. Take your time. Let the road-trip rush dissolve.

Continue on to Mount Barker for an afternoon of cool-climate wine tasting at a local cellar door, then stretch your legs along the public art and mural trail.

Stay overnight in Mount Barker for a quiet evening beneath stars, or continue on to Albany for a wider range of accommodation options.

Albany 2026 Day Two

Mount Barker – Porongurup – Albany

72km | 1hr (without stops)

Greet the day in the Porongurup Range with the Castle Rock hike to the Granite Skywalk. The trail winds through ancient forest, opening to vast views that make you feel at one with nature.

Afterwards, settle in at a nearby Porongurup winery for a slow tasting and an easy lunch, then arrive in Albany by mid-afternoon.

Tonight, check the Albany 2026 calendar and choose what calls you – a performance, an installation, a gathering, or a night where the town feels like it’s glowing from the inside.

Albany 2026 Day Three

Albany

Start the morning along the waterfront with coffee, pastries, and harbour air. Then follow Albany’s creative threads: local galleries, public murals, and the bold scale of silo art.

If you’re drawn to wilder paths, hike the Bald Head Trail in Torndirrup National Park. It’s a rugged, rewarding walk along a narrow peninsula ridge, with ocean on both sides and sky as far as you can see. In wildflower season (August–November), the coastal heath comes alive in colour.

If you’re visiting in March, keep an eye out for Taste Great Southern experiences that pair beautifully with today’s creative pace – food, wine, conversation, and a table set somewhere unforgettable.

Albany 2026 Day Four

Albany

Begin at the National ANZAC Centre, where personal stories echo against the stillness of King George Sound. Continue to the Albany Historic Whaling Station, a place of deep reflection that asks you to look back with honesty.

In the afternoon, head to The Gap and Natural Bridge where granite cliffs hold their ground against the Southern Ocean. If you want a softer ending (and the weather prevails), choose a beach and let the day unravel slowly: Misery Beach, Frenchman Bay, or Little Beach, are all made for long breaths and salt-skin moments.

Tonight, leave space for Albany 2026. Some evenings are made for lingering.

Albany 2026 Day Five

Albany – Denmark – Albany

106km | 1hr 16min (without stops)

Follow winding roads into the forests and hills of Denmark, an art lover’s haven where studios, galleries, and small creative spaces sit quietly among the trees. This is a town shaped by makers, whether they be painters, potters, writers, and weavers. People tend to be drawn here by the light and the stillness.

Pause for sweeping valley views along the way, then spend your day weaving between beaches, forest, and art. Wander a local gallery, browse handcrafted pieces, write your own poem or paint for a slow end to the day.

Marvel at Elephant Rocks where even in winter they’re a salt-sprayed spectacle. Pop into a local chocolate shop for a tasty pick-me-up, then visit Jonathan Hook Studio Ceramics to browse (and maybe take a piece home). Finish with a long lunch in the forest, and if you’re craving canopy views, head for the Valley of the Giants Tree Top Walk.

During Taste Great Southern, Denmark’s events add an extra layer of celebration so be sure to check the calendar.

Albany 2026 Day Six

Albany

Today is for letting others lead the way.

Or connect deeply with Country on a Kurrah Mia cultural experience, guided by Menang Noongar Elders who share stories carried by land and season.

Keep your afternoon gentle. A foreshore walk. A swim. A quiet gallery. Then choose an Albany 2026 event for the evening – something that leaves you feeling energised.

Albany 2026 Day Seven

Albany – Katanning – Perth

462km | 5hr (without stops)

Begin the journey home through the quiet beauty of the inland plains.

In Katanning, follow the FORM Public Silo Trail, visit the Katanning Art Gallery, and wander the Heritage Rose Garden before the final stretch to Perth.

If your week has been shaped by Albany 2026, you’ll leave with more than a list of places. You’ll carry light, story, and the feeling of being part of something bigger.
