Discover the heartwarming stories of the animals who sailed alongside seafarers at Cats & Dogs: All at Sea, a free photographic exhibition at Albany’s Historic Whaling Station from 1 July to 30 September 2026.
Cats & Dogs: All at Sea Exhibition: Originally developed by the Australian National Maritime Museum, the exhibition showcases striking early twentieth-century photographs by renowned photographer Samuel Hood, highlighting the special bond between sailors and their loyal companions, from ship’s cats and dogs to other beloved pets.
Visitors can also share a photo of their own pet as part of the Show Us Your Shipmates! community display. During the July school holidays, families can enjoy a Stowaway Hide and Seek treasure hunt, while teens and adults can join the Paws at Sea: Miniature Felt Workshop. These activities form part of the Albany Maritime Festival and the Historic Whaling Station’s winter holiday program.
