Nestled on Western Australia’s stunning South Coast, just 15-20 minutes west of the charming town of Denmark, lies William Bay National Park. This environmental treasure, approximately 369 km southeast of Perth, is a must-visit destination for anyone seeking pristine beaches, unique granite formations, and unforgettable coastal experiences.
William Bay National Park is renowned for its iconic natural wonders, offering something for every type of traveler.
Greens Pool: A Natural Ocean Oasis Often highlighted as one of Australia’s most beautiful beaches, Greens Pool is the jewel in William Bay’s crown. Here, massive rounded granite boulders create a natural reef, sheltering the turquoise waters from the wild Southern Ocean. This makes Greens Pool an incredibly safe and inviting spot for swimming, especially for families with young children. The clear, calm waters are also perfect for snorkelling, revealing an abundant marine life including zebra fish, silver drummer, and even the occasional wobbegong!
Elephant Rocks: Nature’s Sculptural Masterpiece Just a short stroll from Greens Pool, you’ll discover the aptly named Elephant Rocks. These colossal granite boulders, seemingly lumbering out of the sea, bear a striking resemblance to a herd of elephants. Accessible via a well-maintained staircase, Elephant Rocks provides a dramatic backdrop for photography and a unique place to explore. While mesmerising, always be mindful of tidal conditions, especially when entering the cove.
Madfish Bay: Known for its unusual wave patterns, where waves often come from two directions, creating a captivating spectacle.
Waterfall Beach: During the wetter winter months, a freshwater stream cascades from the heathland onto the white sands and into the ocean, creating a picturesque scene.
Mazzoletti Beach: A fantastic spot for beachcombing, fishing, and taking in the sweeping coastal views.

William Bay National Park is beautiful year-round. However, the summer months (December to February) are ideal for swimming and enjoying the beaches to their fullest. During these peak periods, it’s advisable to arrive early as parking can be limited.
For a display of vibrant wildflowers, plan your visit for spring (September to November), when the park bursts with colour. The cooler months (March to September) are perfect for longer walks and exploring the trails without the summer heat.
Recent upgrades have significantly improved accessibility within the park. The first 200m of the William Bay Trail from the Elephant Rocks carpark is sealed and suitable for wheelchairs and adaptive cycles, leading to a stunning lookout. Accessible toilets are also available.
