Whicher Ridge is a small, family owned and operated winery established in 2004 by a vigneron and winemaking couple, Neil and Cathy Howard. Whicher Ridge is located just 20 minutes from Busselton and 40 minutes from Margaret River.
Enjoy a guided tasting or an immersive wine experience with the winemaker herself which is a real point of difference for a visit here. Whicher Ridge is one of a small number of wineries in the South West which offer the opportunity to taste wines with the person who has actually made them.
Whicher Ridge specialises in making wines in small volumes, using 10 different grape varieties in styles which celebrate their provenance and pair well with food.
Sustainability and a ‘tread lightly on the earth’ philosophy is at the centre of how the couple manage their farm, grow their grapes, make their small batch wines and manage their wine sensory and native plant gardens.Â
The extensive and cleverly designed wine sensory garden at Whicher Ridge was planted in 2014. For visitors, joining in on an immersive wine or garden experience leads to a discovery of where wine flavours come from using plants to take you on that journey. You will find out that grape varieties all have distinctly different flavours, that soil and climate influence flavours, and the style of wine that the winemaker chooses to make also adds more flavours and textures! A section of the sensory garden is devoted to food and wine pairing, with plenty of inspiration and ideas for how to easily pair food and wine, and what to grow in a pot or in your garden bed at home to have with your favourite wine.
A visit to Whicher Ridge will be enjoyed by wine lovers and those who would like to learn more about wine and wine tasting, as well as foodies and gardeners.
