Busselton Museum
Step into the heart of regional history at the Busselton Museum — located in the heritage-listed Old Butter Factory on the banks of the Vasse River in Western Australia’s South West — where the area’s agricultural, maritime and community stories come alive through rich displays and immersive exhibits.

The Busselton Museum is housed in the iconic Old Butter Factory Precinct, a one-hectare heritage site nestled beside the Vasse River in Busselton.

Inside the over-100-year-old butter-factory building you’ll find nine themed rooms filled with artefacts, photographs, equipment and memorabilia that trace the region’s history, from dairy and timber industries, to maritime trade, early settlement and the 1920s Group Settlement Scheme.

Outside, the grounds feature a reconstructed settler’s cottage, a one-teacher schoolhouse, farming and machinery displays, and a scenic riverside setting perfect for reflection.

Run entirely by dedicated volunteers from the Busselton Historical Society, the museum welcomes visitors keen to explore the rich heritage of the South West region, offering everything from family-friendly displays to detailed artifacts that resonate with local identity.

This museum is an essential stop for travellers and locals alike who wish to engage with the full story of Busselton – from its pioneering dairy days to its role in regional Australian history – all within a charming riverside heritage setting.
